12/6/2007 Thousands of churches face closure in ten yearThousands of churches face closure in ten years Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent Thousands of churches face closure, demolition or conversion in the next decade, leading to the demise of some branches of Christianity in Europe, according to experts. In some parts of the country, former churches are being turned into centres of worship for other faiths. A disused Methodist chapel in Clitheroe on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales is the latest, destined to become a mosque for the town's 300 Muslims. There are more than 47,000 churches in Britain today, and 42 million people, more than 70 per cent of the population, consider themselves to be Christian. It sounds a lot, but behind the figures lies a story of decline in the country's established religion. Although the Pentecostal and Evangelical branches of Christianity are growing, worshippers often prefer modern, functional, warehouse-style buildings to the traditional neo-Gothic landscape of British ecclesiastical architecture. Just one tenth of the nation's Christians attends church, and churches are now closing faster than mosques are opening. Practising Muslims will, in a few decades, outnumber practising Christians if current trends continue. A generation ago the churches in Britain seemed unassailable. The first mosques in Britain opened at the end of the 19th century but by 1961 there were just seven mosques, three Sikh temples and one Hindu temple in England and Wales, compared with nearly 55,000 Christian Churches. Sometimes, with denominations such as the Methodists split into three types, there could be as many as seven or eight churches in one small town to cater for Roman Catholics, Anglicans and different groups of Protestants. By 2005 the number of churches had fallen to 47,600. According to the organisation Christian Research, another 4,000 are likely to go in the next 15 years. In the Church of England alone, which still has 16,000 churches, 1,700 have been made redundant since 1969. Over the same period, the number of mosques in Britain has grown to almost the number of Anglian churches that have closed. The Islamic website Salaam records a total of 1,689 mosques. Covenants attached to redundant Anglican churches, however, make it difficult for them to be used by another faith. None has become a mosque, and only two have become Sikh gurdwaras, and the Church of England has opened more than 500 new churches since 1969. Redundant Anglican churches tend to be developed into houses, offices or restaurants. In Cheltenham, 19th-century St James's is now a branch of Zizzi's, an Italian restaurant. Methodist churches, down from 14,000 in 1932 to 6,000, and closing at the rate of 100 a year, are often sold with no restrictive covenant attached. Inayat Bunglawala, of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: "In 1990 there were about 400 mosques in the UK. Many existing mosques are also being refurbished and enlarged." Peter Guillery, of English Heritage, said that the trend was not new. The 18th-century Huguenot church in Brick Lane, in the East End of London, became a Methodist chapel in 1819. It became a synagogue at the end of the 19th century, and a mosque in 1976. Multifaith use of buildings is growing. Art and Christianity Enquiry, a Christian arts trust, is planning a seminar next month on how many buildings in Britain are being shared by different faith groups. But Ceri Peach, of Oxford University, said in The Geographical Review: "The new cultural landscape of English cities has arrived. The homogenised, Christian landscape of state religion is in retreat." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article1362709.ece 10/5/2007 What is it like to be deaf? What is it like to be deaf? "What is it like to be deaf?" People have asked me. Deaf? Oh, hmm... how do I explain that? Simple: I can't hear. No, wait... it is much more than that. It is similar to a goldfish in a bowl, Always observing things going on. People talking at all times. It is like a man on his own island Among foreigners. Isolation is no stranger to me. Relatives say hi and bye But I sit for 5 hours among them Taking great pleasure at amusing babies Or being amused by TV. Reading books, resting, helping out with food. Natural curiosity perks up Upon seeing great laughter, crying, anger. Inquiring only to meet with a "Never mind" or "Oh, it's not important". Getting a summarized statement Of the whole day. I'm supposed to smile to show my happiness. Little do they know how truly miserable I am. People are in control of language usage, I am at loss and really uncomfortable! Always feeling like an outsider Among the hearing people, Even though it was not their intention. Always assuming that I am part of them By my physical presence, not understanding The importance of communication. Facing the choice between Deaf Event weekend or a family reunion. Facing the choice between the family commitment And Deaf friends. I must make the choices constantly, Any wonder why I choose Deaf friends??? I get such great pleasure at the Deaf clubs, Before I realize it, it is already 2:00 am, Whereas I anxiously look at the clock Every few minutes at the Family Reunion. With Deaf people, I feel so normal, Our communication flows back and forth. Catch up with little trivials, our daily life, Our frustration in the bigger world, Seeking the mutual understanding, Contented smiles and laughter are musical. So magical to me, So attuned to each other's feelings. True happiness is so important. I feel more at home with Deaf people Of various color, religion, short or tall. Than I do among my own hearing relatives. And you wonder why? Our language is common. We understand each other. Being at loss of control Of the environment that is communication, People panic and retreat to avoid Deaf people like the plague. But Deaf people are still human beings With dreams, desires, and needs To belong, just like everyone else. --Dianne Kinnee (Switras) 9/13/2007 Only One YouMister Rogers was right after all: There is only one you. But this information is much more important than to just be boosting your self-esteem. It is to help you better serve others by being more confident about your God-given role in life.
No one else fits your shape. No one else has your blend of gifts, talents, and natural abilities – making you very important in the whole scheme of things. “God made our bodies with many parts,” wrote Paul, “and he has put each part just where he wants it.” (1 Corinthians 12:18) And as it is with the human body, so it is with the Body of Christ – the corporate collection of all who believe.
But this uniqueness goes beyond giftedness; it reaches as well into the depth of each of our experiences in life. No one else has your life. No one else has your pain, your hardship, your joys and sorrows. Everything in life shapes us and we are shaped by everything for a reason – so that we can touch others in a unique way based upon who we are and what we’ve been through. God doesn’t waste anything in our lives.
Every piece of our lives and experiences can be used of Christ to touch someone else. We were made for each other; we live for each other; we even die for each other. We die with hope so that others who live might see the reality of Christ in even the darkest of hours. God uses everything.
Are you just getting by, or are you living for a reason? Think about your unique gifts and ask yourself how those gifts are benefiting others. What specific way is God using you to touch others in the Body of Christ? Do you seem to have an extra measure of wisdom, or mercy, or discernment, or knowledge, or administration, or desire to serve? These will help determine how you can look for opportunities to help others.
And then think about the things you have gone through so far in your life – especially the difficult or challenging things where God has met you with his presence and power. That information is not just for you, it’s for you to empathize with and encourage others who have encountered similar struggles.
God isn’t messing around here. There are no accidents with our lives. Whatever we have received and experienced has shaped who we are, and because of that, we are qualified servants. There is truly no one else like you … for a reason 8/18/2007 A letter for youDear Friend,
I just had to send a note to tell you how much I love you and care about you. I saw you yesterday as you were walking with your friends. I waited all day hoping you would want to talk with me also. As evening drew near. I gave you a sunset to close your day and a cool breeze to rest you. And I waited. But you never came. It hurt me, but I still love you because I am your friend.
I saw you fall asleep last night and I longed to touch your brow. So, I spilled moonlight on your pillow and your face. Again I waited, wanting to rush down so that we could talk. I have so many gifts for you. But you awakened late the next day and rushed off to work. My tears were in the rain.
Today you looked so sad , so all alone. It makes my heart ache because I understand. My friends let me down and hurt me so many times, too. But I love you. Oh, if you would only listen to me. I really love you. I try to tell you in the sky and in quiet green grass. I whisper it in the leaves on the trees and breathe it in the colors of the flowers. I shout it to you in the mountain streams and give the birds love songs to sing. I clothe you with warm sunshine and perfume the air with nature's scents. My love for you is deeper than the oceans and bigger than the biggest want or need in your heart.
If you only knew how much I want to help you. I want you to meet my Father. He wants to help you, too. I am the Way, you know. Just call me, ask me , talk with me. I have so much to share with you. But I won't hassle you. I'll wait because I love you.
Your Friend,

I have a little trouble with my breathing in a hot air.... humidy.
My husband Timothy is ok but he suffers so much with his arthritis condition and his back bone.. he has trouble to get up and almost cannot walk or move himself in many days. He feels the pain lot lately. Thank to our God for blessing us to have the opportunity with our home Based business online internet which helps us lot to meet our living, though Tim cannot work at any job!! I am doing good like a eagle....God gives me the strength daily..... to do the housechores and take care of our children while Tim lays/sits on sofa , unmovable sometime. I sometime have stress and frustrated feelings, but I learn to survive anyway.
Since we moved to Manitoba from BC in God's leading. Our children were doing good at school. Went to Awana Club. Our town was so good.. i liked a quiet town. We built some rooms in our basement for the kid bedrooms... some were not finished...
Last Jan, my friend introduced a home based business to me. I joined this business called "Automatcbuilder/Nutronix". Then I joined the Berry Tree company, Nutronix's sister company ... and I won 4th position at the Berry Tree which is so blessing to us... you read my testimony at http://www.abezine.com/grimeautestimonial.html .
What an incredible half year it has been! It’s still hard to believe that I found this great opportunity especially when I wasn’t really looking. I loved the idea of an automated recruiting system which would direct interested people to me! I followed the simple systems in place and my business has exploded to over 200 members in a half year. This is the easiest, fastest growing business I have ever seen!!! You always see people on TV and hear stories about making a pile of money in an online or home based business and wonder ...can that be real? I was one of those people! I had some of the computer skills and I found it to be extremely easy! Now I have a viable business that I really enjoy and it actually pays too!!! I am truly blessed to be able to work from home now instead of going out to work. With the addition of The Berry Tree, my income doubled over night! The income I make now is more than I ever made outside of the home and now I have the freedom to be a stay at home Mom, travel and live the life of my dreams! I can't wait to see what the future holds! My team leaders at this business use my short testimony in their websites to recuit on the internet! Like this: " I am a deaf mother of 6 hearing children and my husband Tim is also deaf. We were struggling without jobs and were on welfare. We were so broke we were using the points in our credit cards for food and gas. However, my husband told me to go for it without delay because he knew this company would give us an opportunity to reach our dreams and he was RIGHT! Tim decided to join as well so that way we would earn two incomes. Now my first Tree is full, generating an income of $1336.00 and because I’m referring others I get a percentage of EVERY My Berry Tree membership. I can’t sleep at night because I am so overwhelmed with excitement! My family's life will never be the same again! Thank you for this GREAT company! Lisa Grimeau "
We are in very much succeed in business and are no longer in assistance from welfare...because we have handsome incomes. We are grateful for God to bless us so much since we moved.
Somehow we see our house where we rent is kind of crowd and the unfinished basement which we suppose to complete the rooms for kids' bedrooms, but Tim cannot do much since he has the pains over his body....realized that it is our time to find another house to move for the safety, better and completed rooms for our childrens ' sakes. We now uninstall the walls down in the basement- messy here for our moving! Pray that God will lead us to a right house soon!!! And with His strengths, we need for our big move especially Tim's condition, pray that we will have people to help our move, as well.
I finally have a nicer minivan that my Nutronix and Berry Tree commissions pay for. The companies really changed much of our lives to have a better life!
12/29/2006 Who am I in Christ?
I am Free 12/21/2006 How to avoid destorying your church
12/9/2006 Merry Christmas- Newsletter 2006The year of 2006 have had been much seriousness of purpose marked to be done and some of them were good and bad. At the last, I am happy that we all live in Manitoba for many good reasons (some dont know why we moved).
You can see how God works in our lives for His glory in many places and many blessings often bring along. To start the testimonial about my husband's aunt Georgina (we alway call her 'Gina').
For years our aunt Gina was “twice lost”: she had lost her family connections and she was a lost soul. But God cared for her, loves her a lot, and never gave up on her.
We found Gina after I learned from Tim’s cousin in 2003 that Tim has a deaf aunt and that she was probably located in Vancouver. We searched for her name in the telephone directory but could not find her. I then wrote an e-mail letter to my contacts with deaf people in Greater Vancouver to see if anyone knew where she was. One of my friends led us to Gina and we were happily reunited. Gina was taken to foster homes by Child and Family Services when she was two. At 18, she met her brother Vic and sister Lucy, and at 25 finally found her father, but she didn’t know much about the rest of the family. She grew up thinking she was the only deaf person in her family. After meeting us she realized she was wrong. The missing pieces of her life were restored when she was reunited with us and Tim’s family. I thought that God must have a good reason for allowing us to find Gina. Just a few months before, she had had breast cancer but it was safely removed. Now we had the opportunity to tell her about Jesus. She listened to our testimonies and the gospel, then decided to give her life to Jesus, becoming a born again Christian at age 63! We brought Gina to our Deaf Community Christian Church (DCCC) in North Delta, B.C. She attended faithfully. Several people volunteered to interpret in front of Gina because she has tunnel vision and is half-blind, therefore cannot see pastor Rudy Unger preaching with signing at a distance. She felt blessed to have this help for her special needs. Gina moved into the basement of our house to be closer to us. Then, last November, she came along with us to Saskatoon for Tim’s grandma’s funeral. This is where Gina finally met Tim’s father George, the brother she had never seen. They were so happy. We were all gathered together – Tim’s parents, uncles and aunts, cousins, and our friend Nairn Gillies, an interpreter at the local college, who interpreted as we talked about our lives and our pasts. Joy and tears were like showers in that room. Once again we saw how God has his mysterious plans for us and how wonderfully he worked in bringing Gina into our lives and back to her family. Meeting her relatives at the funeral, Gina felt whole. This past Easter, Gina confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at DCCC by pastor Unger. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. There was so much joy in my heart, and crying too, as I saw how Gina had been found twice: reunited with Tim’s family and with God her Father. She now lives in Winnipeg, MB, as she was with us for the move last summer. Maybe people want to know why we made a decision to move to Manitoba...it was not my decision but God's plan. Let me tell you....it may be a long story and to enjoy your chair and read! God has His good reason for us to live in a right town of Grunthal in Manitoba! I never thought how God planned for us like this...its the overwhelming, amazedly plan we see in God's leading since we were willing to obey Him fo a call to move here and it became out to be wonderful things that has happened for our children...we realized if we didn't obey His call and we 'd miss much of His blessings...our children 'd not be saved and they'd not learn lot about Him at their schools and none of Awana clubs and Franklin Graham Festival in BC! I can image! I see how they get involved lot of time to learn about God. We lived in Surrey, BC for 9 years before we moved to Manitoba...For few years, we were talking about Kelowna or Saskatoon where we 'd wanted to move to and we didn't want to move to Winnipeg because of the very cold winters and other reasons; but the doors kept closed at our faces and it was few wrong times for having no money to cover all the costs for renting the moving truck and gas etc. Our blue Ford Van had the several problems and it needed the repair and we knew our van won't carry us through the mountains. Till last winter, we were confused and we knew we had to do something for the move because we could not afford the cost of the living in BC , as the expensive places and we also were lonely, but because our families live far in Sask and Manitoba and we didnt know where we should live for the best and it seemed that God didn't want us to move to Kelowna or Saskatoon. I decided to pray and ask God to guide us where He WANTS us to live , not our wantings, and to show us a sign where He wants us to move and to get us another van to take us out of the mountains if He wants us to move somewhere out of BC. In the short time, Tim's parents gave us their van...as God answered our prayer! The Uhaul rental truck popped in my mind and I took a look on the internet for the rates to see how we'd afford for renting the Uhaul truck. I saw the rates under 500 dollars to Kelowna, BC-; to Calgary-$1039; Saskatoon-$1203; Winnipeg-$389. I thought they must made the mistake in typing the price. I called the uhaul office and asked them how much for Winnipeg..they said 389 dollars. I came back and looked at the Uhaul rates on the internet again...as I was akind little shocked - 389 dollars took our attention. As we realized God's calling for us to move to Manitoba as a sign which I prayed for. Gina wanted to come with us, too, to be close to Tim's family, that they live in Sask and Flin Flon, MB.
As we knew God's calling for us to move to Maniotba and we obeyed and to trust Him no matter what, because we didn't have enough money. Our move was so challenge for us and we saw how God's miracles were activated in the events, like we didn't have much money for the move costs; but God took care of everything to be provided for the rental trucks, airplane tickets, food and amazely, it cost us only for 150 dollars to rent a big (26 ft) U-haul truck for one distance way to Winnipeg, MB ( it supposed to be over 1,800 dollars for this truck at our time of the moving, however I made the reservation at 389 dollars ealier in Feb, somehow they were late to get the truck for us one day or two after the reservation day, they offered us 150 dollars and for our moving trip that had been in the terrible occurence in few places across Canada where we experienced that brought us to see the power of God and it teached us included our people along with us, to trust God through the storm highway. These events made us to see how good God is with His power after all the things were hard for our move and I see this town of Grunthal in Maniotba is a right place God chose for us to live for our childrne's sakes that bring them closer to God, as I believe that. In a last week of June for our move, Tim had an accident from the big window that fell and cut both of his legs which caught the infections later. When we left with the friends who helped us along...our U-haul truck's transmission was broken in Kamploo, BC...we thought about our stuffs in the truck...it overwhelmed us about unloading our stuffs into another truck. they found an excat size of a truck quickly for us for the free charge...we had to unload the stuffs out and into another truck for about 8 and half hours during A VERY HOT DAY! They were much thirsted, as the shop was closed, that two strangers came and gave them a box of the water bottles and they disappeared as my people could not found them and they thought that two persons must be the angels! The infection in Tim's legs seemed worse.. then we left Kamploo and we drove upon the mountain where I noticed my van was getting hot on the temp. I was concerned and I thought something was wrong with our van but we could not find something wrong...(Thank God for kept the van running safety during we couldn't find something wrong). When we arrived to Calgary and I noticed something really was wrong with our van, as I felt it was getting vibrated loudly when I went on gas. We stopped at the Husky gas station. Tim found a mould that was broken under the motor where the mould metal holds the motor! The motor was running OK but loosed!!!! We thanked God for held the motor while we drove up on the mountain!!! Imagine if another mould was broken and the motor'd drop down right on the highway! Praise the Lord for kept it safety! However we had to exchange our wine van to a blue van which was towed with the U-haul truck, for drive down to Manitoba, as this blue van is 1987 and it had over 340,00 km and it may be too old for a long driving; while we exchanged the vans, the swamp of mostiques bit us, terribly! We just cannot give up and drove off; as we trusted God for taking care of all of us. Passed Regina, SASK, as we were close to Whitewood, SASK, about 40 miles away; my friend drove at 130 km before our blue van's tire was being blown unexpected, as the van didn't roll over nor out of control, but God kept us safety as it was under the control and straight...though our children were inside. I cannot believe how it happened, as I was sleeping ad I felt really aloud blow, it woke and scared out of me....by the way, the two truckers came out and helped us lot by making the calls....he found someone who came and exchanged a tire for us. A trucker gave my older daughter Samantha 100 dollars for a tire to help us out while I was in the van waiting, as Samantha gave me the money....and I wanted to come out and thank him, but they already left. We waited and a man came over in half hour for a tire...then we left and we wanted to hurry because Tim's legs were bad and the infection grew worse, and that he needed to go to the hospital. We arrived to our sweet home in Grunthal, Manitoba safety! Our moving journey took us more than 4 days to arrive here; which supposed to be two days. I can see how God helped us through the hardship time and the Satan was mad! He threw many barriers at us on the highways, hoping we'd give up. However God quickly sent people to help us through the storm highways! We refused giving up with God's help. I believed God laughed at the Satan for his trying,-failed!
As Tim's parents were there waiting for us, once we arrived and his mom took Tim and Gina to the Hospital in Steinbach quickly because Tim's legs were so red, smelly and infected-so bad! The doctor took a look at his wounds and he told him to come to the clinic each day and to see if the infections go down with the medicines which he was given and he came home. We unloaded our truck and then aunt Gina's u-haul truck to her new home for unloading her furnitures in Winnipeg.
Tim's legs got worsen next day. And it didn't look very good, as the medicine tablets were not working really well. Then in the morning I took him and our friend Al to the steinbach Hospital, as Al is hard of hearing and he helped interpreting for us and the doctor decided to have Tim being admitted to stay in the hospital, but we found that there was no bed for him, as they could not find a available bed for him and we waited for hours. They made some calls to other hospitals-they found one in Vita, MB about 40 minutes away from Steinbach. A nurse said that Tim must stay in the hospital, as his wounds were so serious which the infection grew worse and he'd lose his limbs if not taking care with the medicines. The infections grew deep into the third degree of his skins ad his muscles which were the holes that we 'd see through to he white meats (his muscle)!....but it didn't touch his bones yet..he was very lucky not to lose his limbs. They gave him the IV and three kinds of the medicines at the Vita Hospital. He had to stay there for five days. The nurse said that his diabetes was blamed for making it worse and they depended on the IV and medicines that were really working. However one of the three medicines made his body being reaction and he had the reddish rashes all over his body especially his legs! He cannot stop taking them...continually on IV and Medicines. I prayed for his legs to be healed, as I told God that I needed him to be active with his legs and to help me for many things and our 6 children. God answered our prayers to heal Tim's legs in His mercy. HIs legs were getting better. He came home very happily with his legs and HIS LITTLE SPOTS (rashes)!!
Awesome! Like I said I looked back at the challenges about our faiths and how God is very faithful to provide us for the needs of our move and to see to that we got home safety. The faith teaches us to commit ourselves to God ad to trust Him and His promises even we saw how our move and trip looked impossible in our eyesight, but His promise was done to be provided. We see we left BC and traveled like 'Moses" wilderness trip" through our moving journey, many hardship areas to challenge us and to strengthen our faiths stronger! Even the Satan attacked us with many barriers for the REASON.
Last August, my son Jamie had his appendix to be removed after it was bursted, as he was saved from dying and he stayed at the hospital for several days to fight against the infection and he got better. I'd imagine if we didn't bring him to the hospital sooner, he'd be gone..
At both of our children's new schools in Grunthal, they do with the Lord's prayers and bible study daily in the first moments of each morning and that...is so awesome, though their schools are the public schools, not the private or christian schools. But because in this town, there is a strong belief in Christ among people and they are very active to be involved with God's Word. They also have the discovery Time classes at schools that hold the last half hour of each Wednesday, starting on Oct.18 and ending in April. They use materials put out by Child Evangelim Fellowship and they will be teaching the Bible stories of Joseph and Joshua, etc that really excites me for my children to be involved. Halloween was not celebrated at school, as well. And there is a special club called a 'Drop Zone' which one of the churches owns a building to use for the (teenagers) children that can come to play the games, sports etc to avoid making the trouble outside and to keep them busy to be involved and fellowshipping with other children for every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings and I came to take a look....there is two pool tables; TV games, computer, and much more and there are the tables where the children can sit and get together to chat near a cafe. There is few sport areas outside, too. What a lovely place! I will recommand the parents to encourage their children to go there... and they will find their times not to be boring. My children sometime go there on Tuesday night or on Saturdays if they feel like to go. We have the Awana Club in this town, see the web: http://www.awana.ca/index.htm , that's where all my 6 children go on Wednesday nights to learn the Bible verses and games...fellowship with other children. They really love the club lot. My older daughter Samantha volunteers to help there. And my youngest daughter is so proud to show off her new club jacket which she received from the Awana Club and she loves her book! She is just 4 years old with her beautiful self-esteem! My older daughter Samantha goes to the youth bible study in Steinbach,- Spring church on Friday nights and she also goes to the Air Cadet on Tuesday nights. I feel so blessed for our children to be involved in many events that they hear and learn about God and His Word...i feel so blessed in my spirit when I see them being involved!!! I thank God for this right town He chose for us to live because of our children that can get to know Him better...and because God answered my prayers about my children to know God better, for it is a short time to live here before Jesus comes back! My friend Al was very right when he said he thought that the Satan must be mad at us by threw many barriers against us on our moving trip, that was because the Satan didn't want us to obey God for His purpose about moving to Manitoba and the Satan wanted our children, but with God, everything was possible and God has His power to carry us through the hardship times to have the victory....and now the children are involved in God's Word at schools and events that they go and to learn more about Him. People, in Grunthal, are so wonderful and to help one another...very friendly and we see lot of their love in Christ. It's too bright (showing their lights in Christ) in this town. There are few people that know some signings and we found ourselves only the two deaf persons to live in this town. Deaf people do live in other towns like Mitchelll and Steinbach nearby.
Last Sept, Tim and I went to the Calvary Temple Church in Winnipeg to complete the courses for five weeks for the Counselling and Follow-up Committee of the Central Canada Franklin Graham Festival. After reviewing our applications and evaluating their personnel needs, the Counselling and Follow-up Committee of the Central Canada Franklin Graham Festival mailed us to ask us including approx 12 deaf people and two hearing persons, who interpreted for deaf, from our Calvary Temple of the Deaf church, to serve in the role of a Counsellor for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and there were three interpreters for deaf people at Franklin Graham Crusde on Oct. 20-22. It did work wonderful...more than we thought. All deaf people had the opportunties to know what the singers song about and a preacher frank said..nothing was missing. Especially the loud musics, we'd hear and to feel the vibrates.. it drew us to sing along with them.. it was so beautiful to see them singing with their signs...There was the big TV up which we can see the words being close captioned for the songs and we read and follow the words to sing, and the interpreter also signed for them to copy for singing. It was so fantastic. When the moments started for people to give their life to Jesus...We went down with few deaf persons and to help them to understand what the salvation means and shared the verses and to pray with them, and we exchanged the names, ph no and address to keep in contact for helping them to walk in Christ. That oppuntority was our first time ever to be involved. It was very exciting for us to take the opportunity and to learn new things, as to serve and experience the joy by bringing them to Christ and to add the numbers of our new family of God. It strengthened our confidences to know how we can do the things easier after we stepped in this opportiunty. When we introduced people to Christ, these persons are like our adopted babies as our family like a idea to look after them , to feed them and change the diapers till they grow stronger on their own, the same is with the spiritual new christians , we cannot ignore these babies. It challenge us to take care of them. To save the lost souls to Christ was our number 1 and that we enjoyed to learn many things in His grace and it was hard to explain the express of the feelings but we felt so good to do that and we felt confident when we improved our skills for next new opportunity. The numbers of 1,400 volunteers trained to be counsellors for those who came at the festival events seeking guidance. I learnt that 200 local churches fundraised 1.4 million to bring Franklin Graham to Winnipeg..Good job, Manitobians!! We also brought our children over that last day( Oct 22) after our Calvary Temple of the deaf church service... it touched four of my children....they came down to accept Jesus in their lives. Praise the Lord!
Next two weeks after Franklin Graham festivals, something happened and to impact us all so hard when we learnt that my mom suddenly passed away unexpected on Nov 1 night at her home in Winnipeg, and as I saw her only few times after we moved to MB, but with my understanding, God blessed us to have the little time with her before she was gone. I cannot imagine how it 'd be like if we still lived in BC and being stucked not to come out and miss the important times. My stepdad died to the cancer last Feb and my mom suffered the broken heart and lonely till that night she died and it was very hard for all my siblings and families to lose both of them this year. We will miss the christmas time with her this year since 9 years ago! I just learn to face something that is never the same and let God to guide me and my family in His plan. I see that it also is good for my children to see many relatives here and God answered my prayer for healing my relationship with my brother, as we didnt get along for about 5 years; through my mom's death, it brought the healing for my brother and me.
It's the amazely plan God has for His purpose and I understand why God had His plan for us to move to Manitoba and I believe that we will have more of His plans in our lives in the future. In our goal to own a business like my dad does work with the junkyards -to clean up the yard and pick up the unwanted or old, torn furnitures and junkies to the dump, in our town and around the towns in the spring or summer if given an opportunity. And I am sure that we will go to Saskatoon and Tim's parents' home especially a new church for the Deaf in Saskatoon in the Spring or Summer. God answered many prayers for a new pastor for deaf people in Sask and a certain deaf couple, from our BC church, were called for Sask to minister a new church and they are moving to Saskatoon in the end of this month...it excites us to visit their new church soon.
Before I close this letter, I want to share Billy Graham's short letter with you about Jesus in the purpose of the Christmas season:
As we approach the Christmas season, we think about the greatest gift of all, a gift given not only on the first Christmas, but as Billy Graham reminds us, a gift given in full on the first Easter:
When I see Jesus Christ hanging on the cross, I see the nails in His hands, I see the spike in His feet, I see the spear in His side, I see the crown of thorns upon His brow, and I remember that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16) to take my place on the cross. In these days of uncertainty and confusion, these are gifts that go beyond our power to understand. And yet they are the gifts of God that became ours because we have received Jesus Christ as our Savior.
Wishing you a best Christmas and a new year to be fulfilling with God's blessings. In Christ,
Lisa Grimeau & Family

9/16/2006 Penetrating PowerMy Story
Penetrating Power In any language, God's Word can change hearts. When I read the Bible for the first time in my native language, God penetrated my heart with the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. That’s the power of God’s Word when it is given to people in the language they understand best. It’s what Bible translation is all about—taking the Gospel into all the world. Some 380 million people still can’t read about the saving power of Christ in their heart language. I was one of them, until someone obeyed the command to go into all the world.
by Nard Pugyao In March 1956, when I was about 6, a tall, pale white man stumbled into my home village of Dibagat in the northern jungles of the Philippine island of Luzon. The man didn’t speak our language, so our elders asked him the best they knew how, “Why are you here?”
“I’ve come to learn your language,” he said. “I’d like to write it down and then give you God’s Word in your language.” “Who is your God?” the elders asked. “He’s the God of heaven and earth,” the man answered. “He’s the Creator of the universe. He created you, too.” “Is He powerful?” the elders probed. “More powerful than the spirits that have controlled our lives from the beginning of time? Is He more powerful than our ancestors, the headhunters?” “Yes, He’s more powerful.” Hopeful, we started teaching this man, Dick Roe, our language. Maybe his God could free us from the spirits. I talked to Dick often. He told us about his exciting God: “He has a Son named Jesus. He came down to earth from heaven and was nailed to a cross.” He tried to explain the concept of God’s grace, but our lives revolved around the revenge killings of our headhunter ancestors. Grace didn’t make sense. When I was about 13, Dick had to return to the United States to raise support for his ministry. But before he went back, he translated the Gospel of Mark and gave me a copy. While he was gone I started reading the Bible for the first time, beginning with the Easter story and continuing through chapter 16. Sitting on top of a rock, I read the Gospel of Mark in my heart language. It felt like I was actually there, seeing the characters. But the further I read, the more distressed I felt. A mob of people came to get Jesus out of the Garden of Gethsemane. What did He do wrong? I read as fast as I could. They accused Him of all kinds of false things. They mocked Him, spat on Him, beat Him and took Him before Pilate. Then the scourge and the crown of thorns. It was excruciating to read that they forced Him to carry a wooden cross and then nailed Him to it. Deep in my heart a hatred of God swelled. I shook my fist and shouted, “I hate You, God, for being so powerless! Why should I believe in a powerless God like You?” With all my strength I threw the Gospel of Mark down to the rocks and started walking home. I couldn’t understand why God wouldn’t protect His own Son. Our headhunters defended us to the death. Because of them, no one could touch us. I wanted a god like that, someone who would protect me from the spirits that demanded that we sacrifice our cows, chickens, pigs and dogs. This God didn’t even save His own Son. Suddenly God reached down into my heart. “Nard, don’t you understand?” I heard Him say. “That’s how much I love you. I gave my Son on your behalf.” For the first time I understood grace. I understood how much God loved me. “God, if You love me that much,” I prayed, “I want to give You my life, my heart. It’s all Yours.” I went back and picked up my Gospel, brushed it off and sat back on that rock to see what happened next. It was an incredible moment as I read that Jesus rose from the grave on the third day. Nobody in all of Dibagat, nobody from among the Isnag people, had ever risen from the grave. The resurrection story changed my life. Dick came back to the Philippines in 1964, and I told him I had met Jesus. He was overjoyed. However, he had news for me, too. “I’m excited about Bible translation work in your language,” he said, “but I have to go to Mindanao [in the southern Philippines] for the next four years.” Disappointment filled my heart. I was hoping that he would help me grow in my faith in Christ. But he continued, “How would you like to go with me? I’ll help you go to school if you help me finish translating the Bible into Isnag.” So at about age 14, I left Dibagat. It was my first flight, and I clutched Dick’s leg and screamed as we took off. Terror filled me for the next 55 minutes. I decided that flying was meant only for birds. But God didn’t agree. We arrived at the translation center and got to work. In the coming years, the missionary pilots became my heroes and I developed an interest in flying. Although I found it hard to believe that God wanted me to become a pilot, that’s exactly what happened. After high school, I went to several aviation-training programs in the United States. I met and married Sandy, a missionary’s daughter, and we joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1977. In 1979, Wycliffe assigned us to the Philippines, where I served as pilot and mechanic, flying missionaries, government officials and nationals to remote locations. I served with some of the same missionaries who had an impact on me as a young man. On June 24, 1982, we experienced the greatest moment of our ministry. Sandy and I, along with our eldest son, Steve, packed 500 copies of the newly completed Isnag New Testament into a plane and flew to Dibagat to deliver them to my people. As I loaded the plane, I wondered what would have become of me, and so many others in our village, if Dick Roe had ignored God’s call to bring the Bible to the Isnag people. When we landed in Dibagat, my relatives came out to greet us. They helped us unload the boxes but didn’t know what was inside. “Hey,” I said to my eldest sister as she lifted a box onto her head, “do you know what that is?” “It’s just a box,” she answered. “With New Testaments in our language,” I added. A sparkle lit her eyes. She lowered the box and hugged it. “Are you serious? I’m going to have my very own copy of the New Testament in our language?” My heart was about to burst as I realized again the penetrating power of the Bible and what it means to read God’s Word in your heart language. 9/15/2006 Be kindA holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and
said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like".
The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the
doors and the holy man looked in.
In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle
of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and
made the holy man's mouth water.
The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They
appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long
handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it
possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but
because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not
get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at
the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You
have seen Hell."
They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly
the same as the first one. There was the large round table
with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The
people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here
the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.
The holy man said, "I don't understand".
"It is simple" said the Lord, "it requires but one skill. You
see, they have learned to feed each other. While the greedy
think only of themselves. A friend is someone who reaches for
your hand, and touches your heart. People say true friends must
always hold hands, but true friends don't need to hold hands
because they know the other hand will always be there..."
"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some
kind of battle".
Author Unknown 8/21/2006 Tithing questionsQuestion: "What does the Bible say about Christian tithing?”
Answer: Tithing is an issue that many Christians struggle with. In many churches tithing is over-emphasized. At the same time, many Christians refuse to submit to the Biblical exhortation in regards to making offerings to the Lord. Tithing / giving is intended to be a joy, a blessing. Sadly, that is rarely the case in the church today.
Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were give 10% of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle / Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites of the sacrificial system. The New Testament nowhere commands, or even recommends that Christians submit to a legalistic tithe system. Paul states that believers should set aside a portion of their income in order to support the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
The New Testament nowhere assigns a certain percentage of income to set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with his income” (1 Corinthians 16:2). The Christian church has essentially taken the 10% figure from the Old Testament tithe and applied it as a “recommended minimum” for Christians in their giving. However, Christians should not feel obligated to always tithe. They should give as they are able, “in keeping with his income.” Sometimes that means giving more than a tithe, sometime that may mean giving less than a tithe. It all depends on the ability of the Christian and the needs of the church. Each and every Christian should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom as to whether to participate in tithing and/or for how much he or she should give (James 1:5). “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Question: "Should we tithe off our gross or net income?"
Answer: The tithe is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were give 10% of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle / Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). Believers in Christ are not commanded to give 10% of their income. Each and every Christian should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom for how much he or she should give (James 1:5). I do believe that the Old Testament tithe is a good principle for believers to follow. Giving 10% of your income back to God demonstrates your thankfulness to Him for what He has provided and helps you to remember to rely on God instead of on riches.
The Bible does not specifically say whether we should give 10% off our gross or net income. The Old Testament teaches the principle of firstfruits (Exodus 23:16; 34:22; Leviticus 2:12-14; 2 Chronicles 31:5). Old Testament believers gave off the best of their crops, not the leftovers. The same principle should apply to our giving today. Again, a believer should give what he believes God would have him give. We should not give off of net income just so we give less. It all goes back to your heart attitude. Are you giving out of reverence for God or out of selfishness for your own wealth? “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Question: "Should a church tithe 10% of the offerings it receives?"
Answer: Tithing is given as an example in the Scriptures as how individuals should respond to God's blessings. Many individuals question as to whether the tithe is still applicable for believers today since we are not "under the law." Despite that distinction, many believers consider it their privilege to give proportionately to the work of the Lord, usually using the tithe as a pattern. Although churches are not given percentages in the New Testament, the principle of proportionate giving is given (1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 8). The New Testament also records that the believers in the church were collecting to give to other ministries.
Although there may not be a specific verse stating that a church should tithe to other ministries, it seems that churches and other ministries should be generous in supporting other ministries as the Lord prospers them. For some churches, it helps them to keep outwardly focused by setting a certain amount in their budget toward "outside ministries." Therefore, it would not be unusual for a church or ministry to give a tithe (10%) or another percentage to what they consider missions. At the same time, this is not to be a legalistic requirement. Rather, it is to be a joyous celebration in response to the Lord's provision.
Question: "Does our tithe all have to go to our church or can part of it go to a Christian ministry?"
Answer: This is a difficult issue to discern Biblically because the Bible does not mention “special offerings” for Christian causes or para-church Christian ministries. The Bible simply tells us to give to the Lord (1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 9:7). Yes, most definitely we should be giving to the church we attend, serve at, and worship in! If a Christian believes the Lord is leading him to give 10%, does that entire 10% have to go to the church, or can it be split between the church and other Christian purposes? Sadly, the answer to this question usually breaks down based on to whom it is being asked. Churches / pastors will usually teach that the full 10% should go to the church, and any other Christian giving above and beyond the 10%. Christian ministries / causes usually teach that the 10% figure for giving can be divided between churches and ministries – according to the Lord’s leading.
So, which view is correct? Even as a para-church ministry, GotQuestions.org holds that a believer’s primary giving should be to his/her local church. If we are forced to give specific advice, we would advocate giving 10% to your local church with any "additional offerings" to other Christian causes being above and beyond the 10%. We do not believe, though, that a believer is legalistically required to give 10% –The Bible instructs believers in Christ to give generously, to give cheerfully, and to give regularly. There is no Biblical formula for how to split a tithe between a church and another Christian organization. If a Christian believes the tithe is binding on believers today, the 10% should go to the church (based on the storehouse principle of Malachi 3:10.
Further, if a believer prayerfully decides to give 10% in offerings, we believe he/she can give as the Spirit leads him/her, i.e. 8% to their church and 2% to other Christian causes. What matters is that we, as believers, make sacrificial financial offerings to God – not necessarily to the church. Each and every believer should pray to God for wisdom in regards to how much and to whom God would have them make their offerings.
From Gotquestions.org 5/20/2006 Is Jesus the only path to God?By Lee StrobelA reporter for one of the network news programs called to ask me about the resurgence of interest in spirituality around the country. We had an amiable chat for a while – until I mentioned that it was my hope that all those who were experimenting with various belief systems would eventually meet Jesus. Instantly the conversation turned cold. “Are you telling me that two-thirds of the world is going to Hell because they’ve never heard of Christ?” he angrily demanded. The tone of his voice made it clear: He was accusing me of being narrow-minded, bigoted, and snobbish. He didn’t linger long enough for me to defend myself, but ultimately his argument isn’t with me. It’s with Jesus. Because in the single most outrageous claim he ever uttered, Jesus announced, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) Out of all the incredible statements by Jesus, this astounding assertion has the greatest tendency to outrage people. Many consider it arrogant, intolerant, and politically incorrect. Even Jesus’ claim to being divine doesn’t upset people the way this declaration does. ‘All religions are basically the same’ One reason Jesus’ exclusivity claim is so controversial is because it contradicts the popularly held viewpoint that all religions are basically the same. In other words, people believe there are a variety of paths they can take in their spiritual journey, and they all eventually lead to the same God. However, Jesus’ outlandish claim to being the only way to God puts Christianity in a class by itself. All other religions are based on people doing something, through their struggling and striving, to somehow earn the good favor of God. By contrast, Christianity is based on what Jesus Christ has done for us on the cross. The Bible teaches that we’re all spiritual rebels and that nobody can do anything to merit Heaven, but that Jesus died as our substitute on the cross and is offering forgiveness and eternal life as a gift of his grace. This element of grace is unique to Christianity. As one scholar pointed out, the contrast becomes stark when you compare a parable taught by Jesus with a similar story found in Buddhist literature. Both stories involve sons who became rebellious and left home but later recognized the error of their way and decided to return. In the Buddhist story, the errant son is required to work off the penalty for his past misdeeds by spending years in servitude. But the Christian parable concludes with the prodigal son receiving a warm welcome from his father and being showered with undeserved forgiveness. The message of grace and the message of working off past wrongs are fundamentally incompatible. It wouldn’t make sense that both could come from the same God. After all, God isn’t schizophrenic! It seems logical that God would provide one path for us to follow in finding him and that he would reveal that path in an extraordinary and unprecedented manner – which he did by sending Jesus Christ to enter human history. As incredible as it sounds, Jesus is saying that all other routes are ultimately dead ends, but his is the way to God. ‘You have your truth, I have mine’ Jesus’ claim of exclusivity also skewers the myth that even though Christianity may be different, it’s no more true than any other system of religion. This is the “you have your truth, I have mine” idea. R.C. Sproul points out that this belief has a certain amount of appeal because, on the surface, it reflects the tolerant and pluralistic attitudes of our country. Under our Constitution, all religious opinions are equally protected; people are free to believe whatever they want. But some people jump to the erroneous conclusion that just because different religious viewpoints are equally protected, they therefore must be equally true. That’s just not the case. So how do we know Jesus was telling the truth when he claimed to be the only path to God? Anybody could make that assertion. In fact, lots of people have! But Jesus was different. He not only contended he was the way, the truth, and the life, but he had credentials that no other religious leader has ever had – and that gives him unique credibility. Look at some of the evidence that backs up Jesus’ bold declarations: His miracles, which are documented by the reliable historical records that make up the New Testament. He performed many miracles in broad daylight and in front of skeptics. Jesus said, “Don’t believe me unless I do miracles of God,” because he knew that they would be strong affirmation of his identity. His character also provides confirmation of his claim. So often when we really get close to other people, we see their flaws all the more clearly. Yet the exact opposite happened with those who knew Jesus. The closer they got to him, the more they marveled at his integrity and purity. For instance, nobody was closer to Jesus during his three-year ministry than John and Peter. John said, “In him is no sin.” Peter wrote, “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” The predictions about the coming Messiah in the Old Testament numbered about four dozen, and when you piece them together, they create a kind of fingerprint. Of all the people who have lived down through the ages, only Jesus Christ matches the fingerprint. The odds against anyone doing this are astronomical. University mathematician Peter Stoner, in his book Science Speaks, conservatively estimated that the likelihood of any one person throughout history fulfilling 48 of the prophecies would be one chance in a trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion! The resurrection of Jesus, which he not only foretold but which, as a credible event of history, conclusively established that Christ was who he claimed to be. When you add all of this up, it’s clear that Christianity isn’t merely a philosophy; it’s reality. It’s not just a way of life; it’s a faith that’s uniquely grounded in history. Trust the person with credibility Although Jesus’ followers are sometimes accused of being narrow-minded for believing that Jesus alone can lead us to God, it’s certainly not narrow-minded to weigh the evidence and follow the advice of the person who knows what he is talking about. Late one afternoon when I was 14 years old, I was home by myself, painting with oil colors on a large canvas in the basement. While acrylics dry fairly quickly, oil paints seem to take forever. Impatient, I plugged in a couple of heat lamps to hurry matters along. Not smart. A short time later a pile of rags soaked with turpentine went up in flames. Soon the entire corner of the wood-paneled basement was ablaze. I ran to the telephone to call the fire department. When I returned, I saw that the fire was out of control. I tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire with water from the laundry room. The enclosed basement was rapidly filling with a thick, black, sooty smoke. The lights shorted out. Choking on the smoke and acrid fumes, I was quickly becoming disoriented. I couldn’t see the stairs anymore. A horrible realization hit me: I couldn’t save myself. Just then a police officer arrived and opened the door to the basement. He stepped onto the top stair and began shining around a big flashlight. “Police officer!” he called out. “Anyone down there?” I didn’t have to analyze the situation intellectually to know that the police officer was my only hope of escape. He was a trained professional and fully capable of leading me to safety. What’s more, he held a big flashlight to illuminate the way for me. I had to put my faith in that officer – a faith based on facts. I followed the light, and he put his arm around me and led me to safety. Many years later I was faced with a spiritually equivalent situation. After nearly two years of investigating the claims of Jesus, I knew he had unique credentials and credibility. And based on what he said, I realized for the first time that I couldn’t save myself. I was guilty of sinning against a holy God. It was an open-and-shut case. And the penalty was eternal separation from him. I was hopelessly disoriented and lost, but Jesus was calling to me and reaching out to rescue me. He was fully capable of leading me to safety. He knew the way to eternal life. In fact, he was the way. And he didn’t need a flashlight, because as he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” I took a step of faith – not a blind or irrational step but one that was secure and firm because it was based on the history-proven trustworthiness of Jesus Christ. On Nov. 8, 1981, I allowed him to lead me out of the darkness, away from the inferno, and into a place of safety. Statistics show that 84 percent of Americans already believe in the credentials of Jesus Christ. They’re convinced that he’s God or the Son of God. Maybe you’re part of that majority. If you’ve never acted on that belief, it’s my hope that you’ll let him rescue you from your otherwise hopeless situation by praying to receive Christ as your forgiver and leader. If you do, I predict that you’ll discover what I did: • Jesus is the way – the path to a lifetime of adventure, fulfillment, challenge, and purpose, even when we sacrifice or suffer for his sake. • Jesus is the truth – and he provides us with wisdom that works for our everyday life and the turbulent times as well. • And Jesus is the life. He – and he alone – can give us confidence in our future for all of eternity. 5/19/2006 How can I ever change?Rick WarrenIt’s clear – when you look at the reading habits of Americans – that most of us are interested in change. Of the 15 recent best sellers, 10 of them were self-help books. We read books and go to seminars and try diets and listen to tapes, but somehow, all those new ideas just don't seem to last. We change for a while, but the change usually isn’t permanent. The main reason for this is that we work on outward behavior instead of inner motives. Any lasting change must begin on the inside, and that's a work of God. God has a four-step process for changing us. We find it in Genesis chapter 32 when Jacob, a somewhat shifty fellow (his name means “cheater” or “schemer”) experienced a turning point that transformed him into a new person. From that point on, he was no longer Jacob, the “cheater,” but Israel. The message found in this chapter is encouraging. It tells us that we don't have to stay in the rut where we are: God is willing to help us to change. How do we let him help us? Let's look at the events that transpired in Genesis 32:24-30: "Jacob was left alone, and a Man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the Man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the Man. Then the Man said, `Let me go, for it is daybreak.' But Jacob replied, `I will not let you go unless you bless me.' The Man asked him, `What is your name?' 'Jacob,' he answered. Then the Man said, `Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.' Jacob said, `Please tell me your name.' But he replied, `Why do you ask my name?' Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, `It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."' (The word "Peniel" is a Hebrew word for "the face of God.") Jacob’s wrestling match demonstrates the four steps God uses to change us into the people we want to become. The first step is the crisis phase. When God wants to change us, he starts by getting our attention. Sometimes he puts us in frustrating situations that are totally beyond our control. We usually never change until we get fed up with our current situation. When we get miserable enough, discontent enough, and uncomfortable enough, we finally get motivated enough to let God do something in our lives. A mother eagle will stir up the nest of her young. She'll make them uncomfortable and miserable, then kick them out and force them to learn to fly – for their own good. God does that too. He knows what’s best, and if discomfort will do the trick, then he’ll allow discomfort. He needs to do this because we don't change until our fear of change is exceeded by the pain we're experiencing. The second step in being changed by God is the commitment phase. Jacob told the angel: “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” (v. 26) He was persistent enough to stay with the situation until he worked it out. Though frustrated, he said, "I am 100 percent committed to staying with the situation until God turns it around for good." After God gets our attention with a problem, he doesn't solve it immediately. He waits a little longer to see if we really mean business. Most people miss God's best for their lives because they give up too soon. Instead of hanging in there and saying, "God, I'm not going to let go of this until you bless me, until you turn it around," they just give up and miss God's best. We're so conditioned to having instant everything, including instant success, that if we don't have an instant answer to our one prayer, instant success, or an instant turnaround, we say, "Forget it, God." We need to remember that we didn't get into our present mess overnight. Those attitudes, actions, habits, fears, and weaknesses took years to develop, and sometimes God has to remove them layer by layer. Usually it takes awhile for God to change you. But don't give up. Hang in there. Be committed to getting God's best for your life. The third step in being changed by God is the confession phase. The angel said to Jacob, "What is your name?" And he answered, "Jacob." What was the purpose of the angel's question? It was to get Jacob to acknowledge his character by stating his name – by acknowledging that he was a "schemer." Jacob remembered the heartache he had caused by his scheming against his brother Esau, so when the angel asked, "What are you really like? What's your character?" Jacob admitted, "I'm a cheater. I'm a schemer." He admitted his weaknesses because he was honest. We will never change until we honestly face and admit our faults, sins, weaknesses, and mistakes. God will not go to work on our problem until we first admit that we've got a problem. We need to say, "Lord, I'm in a mess. I've got a problem and I admit I made it." Then God can go to work. The fourth step in being changed by God is the cooperation phase. God began changing Jacob as soon as he admitted who he was and began to cooperate with God's plan. Jacob called the place "Peniel," meaning "the face of God" (v. 30). Jacob came face to face with God. Every one of us must eventually come face to face with God, and when we do that, God can change us. God said to Jacob, "Now we can get down to business. I want you to relax. Just cooperate and trust me, and I will make the changes that you want made. I will bless you." God didn't say, "Jacob, try real hard and use all your willpower to become perfect." That doesn't work. Willpower simply does not make permanent changes in our lives. That's attacking the outward circumstance. It's the internal motivation that makes the permanent changes, and that's what God works on. When Jacob began to cooperate, God started working. The first thing God did was to give him a new name and a new identity. God said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel." (v. 28) After we have had a personal encounter with God we can no longer be the same. God knew Jacob’s potential. He changed Jacob from a cheater and schemer to an Israel, a "Prince of God." God saw all of Jacob's weaknesses, but he also saw beneath the surface: "That's not the real you, Jacob. You're actually an Israel. You're a prince." What's the one thing you would most like to change about your life? Maybe it's a habit. Maybe it's a weakness. Maybe it's a character difficulty. Maybe it's something that's gotten you into more trouble than you could have imagined, and now the situation is beyond your control. Maybe you're in a no-win situation that bothers and bugs you and keeps you from developing the potential that God wants you to develop. The good news is this: Beneath all those things you know about yourself that you don't like, God sees an Israel. He sees the prince or princess in your life. He sees what you can become. And he wants to change you from a Jacob to an Israel. Let God do his changing! 5/11/2006 Never fall
A lot of people have been playing games when it comes to the Word. They claim to be faith people in public. But, in private, they never open the Bible at all. Then, when a time of trouble comes and they try to stand on the Word, they fall flat on their spiritual faces.

5/9/2006 Pray About Everything, All the Time
Prayer is the gracious gift of God to us, that allows us to communicate with Him. It allows us to express our needs and our worship of Him, to correct the wrongs of our society and of individual wicked people that we are otherwise helpless to protect ourselves from. Prayer also allows us to intercede with God on behalf of our family and friends, and even our enemies. Prayer allows us to ask for healing of our mind and body, and to rid our conscience of guilt and sin.
Before we pray, we must have a clean heart and conscience. The Bible says that if we are holding on to secret sinful attitudes and activities, God refuses to hear us and answer our prayers will go un-answered.
So first, you must deal with any sin in your life. If you think that you have not sinned, you are fooling yourself. We are all sinners, fallen and depaved. Even though we are born again, we still have the tendency to hold on to sinful attitudes and do little secret sins. If you try to pray with sin on your heart, The Lord will not hear you. If you ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal to you what you need to confess and to stop doing, He will do so. Then with peace in your heart you will have confidence that your prayers will be answered, because you are talking with the All-Powerful, All-Seeing, and All-Loving God who controls the universe.
(Psa 139:23-24 KJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:
{24} And see if there be any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
(Psa 66:16-20 KJV)
Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
{17} I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.
{18} If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
{19} But verily God hath heard me;
he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
{20} Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer,
nor his mercy from me.
(1 John 1:8-9 KJV)
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
{9} If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
There are many ways and circumstances to pray. There are urgent prayers that can be prayed in hte midst of a dangerous or threatening event, there are intercessory prayers that are prayed on behalf of someone else, there are prayers during long times of quiet meditation in reflection on the goodness of God and His gracious care and provision, there are prayers that one says in times of loneliness or doubt. There are prayers in times of pain and suffering, when it seems like no one cares and the pain will never end. There is actually no time in which a prayer is not appropriate. It is for these reasons that God encourages us to pray at all times and for any reason.
1 Th 5:17-18 (KJV)
Pray without ceasing.
{18} In every thing give thanks:
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Sam 12:23-24 (KJV)
Moreover as for me,
God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you:
but I will teach you the good and the right way:
{24} Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you.
Mat 5:43-45 (KJV)
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
(44) But I (Jesus) say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you,
and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
(45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:
for He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good,
and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Rom 8:26-28 (KJV)
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:
for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
{27} And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,
because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
{28} And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.
2 Th 3:1-3 (KJV)
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course,
and be glorified, even as it is with you:
{2} And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men:
for all men have not faith.
{3} But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
1 Tim 2:1-6 (KJV)
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
{2} For kings, and for all that are in authority;
that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
{3} For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
{4} Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
{5} For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
{6} Who gave himself a ransom for all,
to be testified in due time.
God Bless you as you meditate on these things.
In Christ..
